Your Invisalign trays aren’t indestructible. Find out what to do if you damage your trays.

Invisalign is an amazing way for teens and adults to straighten teeth without needing to sport a mouth full of metal. Instead, clear custom-invisalignmade trays are placed over your teeth to help move them into place. Of course, they are less likely to incur damage than metal brackets and wires, but they aren’t impervious to damage. Find out what our Dayton, OH dentists Dr. James Shepler and Dr. James Shepler III recommend doing if you break one of your Invisalign trays.

If your Invisalign cracked chances are you are in a panic. Just stay calm. You have options. Make sure to inspect the crack: how bad is it? Has the tray completely split or is there just a small crack? The severity of the crack will dictate whether your Invisalign is still wearable.

In an ideal world each set of Invisalign aligners are worn for about 2 weeks (14 days). If there is a small crack in your aligners but you can still wear them then our Dayton general dentist may recommend just wearing them until it’s time to replace them for the next set in your treatment.

If the break is so bad that the Invisalign trays are unwearable, you certainly need to give us a call. Depending on how many days you were wearing this aligner before it broke we may just recommend putting on the next set of aligners in your treatment plan and wearing them a bit longer. If you just started wearing this new tray and it broke then you may need to put on the previous aligners until a new tray can be made.

If you have questions about your Invisalign treatment or have any concerns know that you can always turn to North Main Dental Inc. in Dayton, OH for all of your dental issues. We are here to help you achieve the perfect smile!
